Founded on the ethos that ‘every body can heal itself’ Nicky opened Health Conscious in March 2011. As a qualified Pharmacist with a personal interest and self-motivated study in natural medicine, Nicky wanted to inspire the local community to take control of their health and start on the path towards ‘wholeness’.


Americans Increasingly Health Conscious

With two-thirds of U.S. adults and almost one-third of children and adolescents overweight or obese, a new report shows that a diverse range of consumers are increasingly focused on weight loss and weight maintenance within a broadening context of personal health and lifestyle issues.
The report, which was issued by market research publisher Packaged Facts, shows a shift toward weight management and healthy habits. Packaged Facts estimates the global weight loss and diet management market — including diet food and drinks, weight loss programs and services, weight loss drugs and natural therapies, and surgical interventions — reached $26 billion in 2009. Diet food and drinks was the largest category, with $18 billion, or 73 percent, of total worldwide sales.
The development of foods and beverages that provide satiety, or hunger satisfaction, is projected to be one of the hottest trends in weight management in the coming years.

Identifying the health conscious consumer.

Abstract

Individuals who lead a "wellness-oriented" lifestyle are concerned with nutrition, fitness, stress, and their environment. They accept responsibility for their health and are excellent customers for health-related products and services. Those who lack a wellness orientation are identified as higher health risks and become candidates for health promotion program intervention. The authors report a new scale by which to measure the wellness-oriented lifestyle. Scale development procedures are detailed, followed by information from five studies that support its validity. The authors suggest ways health care marketers may use the Wellness Scale to segment and target potential customers and position their products and services.
